Wenger not shy of praising “exceptional” opponent

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger was all praise for Manchester City’s stand-in skipper Yaya Toure as the influential midfielder attempted to lead his side’s fightback against the Gunners with an outstanding goal in the 82nd minute which set up a tight finish.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the first half thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, but missed chances galore in the second half to put the game to bed with Joel Campbell and Aaron Ramsey guilty of some poor finishing. A late strike from Yaya Toure set up a nervy finish, but the Gunners held on to grab three crucial points in the race for the Premier League title. Continue reading

Arsenal 2-1 Manchester City: THE Match Report

A clinical first half display from Arsenal wherein they scored twice from the two chances they created helped the Gunners open up a crucial four point cushion over title rivals Manchester City with what was in the end a rather nervy 2-1 win over the Citizens.

Mesut Ozil was the architect for Arsenal once again as his simple pass was curled home beautifully by Theo Walcott to give Arsenal the lead, before the German playmaker picked out Olivier Giroud, who lashed home between Joe Hart’s legs in injury time at the end of the first half to make it 2-0 for the Gunners. Arsenal sat back in the second half and played largely on the counter attack, but Joel Campbell missed two gilt edged chances before Hart saved a Ramsey shot inadvertently with his face to deny Arsenal a goal that would have killed the game as a contest. Should Arsenal re-sign Kolo Toure?

Ivorian international Kolo Toure will available on a free transfer this summer, failing to secure a new deal at his current club Manchester City. The veteran defender was the ultimate utility player when he joined the Gunners before becoming one of the best center backs in the Premier League, and is currently being linked with a move to Liverpool where he could see out the rest of his career.

Arsene Wenger may well consider to hijack the deal as the lack of defensive options available to him has seen his side struggle in the grueling phase of the League and Kolo Youre could be the perfect free transfer this summer for the Gunners. Continue reading
