Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may finally have a chance of putting his transfer market woes behind him, with the club having been encouraged in their pursuit of AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas after the Serie A giants failed to qualify for the group stage of this season’s Champions League.

The Romans lost the second leg of their qualifier against Porto with a scoreline of 3-0 after having played out a 1-1 draw in their last encounter. And that, in turn, has been good news for the Gunners, who now have the opportunity of luring Manolas to the Emirates Stadium by offering him a chance to play in Europe’s top tier competition.

Polish sensation Wojciech Szczesny showed Arsenal manager what he can expect from him, once he’s back at the club, by putting in a fine performance during his Serie A debut for AS Roma at Hellas Verona today.

The 25 year old, who is currently on loan at Roma, did concede a goal just after the hour mark when Bosko Jankovic scored from a Emil Hallfredsson cross. However, the Pole had earlier done really well to pull a fabulous double save off Hallfredsson and Juanito Gomez, failing which his side would have certainly started their league campaign with a defeat.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is set to move to Serie A side AS Roma on loan for the next season.

The Frenchman was quoted telling reporters during the pre-match press conference ahead of his club’s Emirates Cup game against Olympique Lyon: “He could go on loan to Roma. We are pretty much done it is down to paper work but as long as that is not over the line anything can happen.”
