Wenger praises Arsenal’s hyphenated trio for match-winning midfield display

While it would be easy to dismiss Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of Southampton in the FA Cup today as men against boys, it is worth remembering that Arsene Wenger took a chance by fielding an exceptionally young midfield today away to St. Mary’s Stadium.

Giving Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Francis Coquelin the night off ahead of an important game against Watford in midweek, Wenger entrusted the midfield duties to his favourite hyphenated trio – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Jeff Reine-Adelaide, two amongst the three being teenagers. Arsenal teenager promoted to first team for 2016-17 season

Arsenal youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide, signed last season from RC Lens, has been promoted to the club’s senior team ahead of the 2016-17 season despite being just 18 years old.

The French teenage sensation made his Arsenal debut last year and notched up 2 first team appearances. That number could increase radically this year with the youngster having been bumped up to join the big boys, and the Gunners facing a severe manpower shortage due to three summer exits of veteran midfielders and a whole host of first team regulars not having returned to training yet after an extended break due to Euro 2016.
