The late late show staring Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud was once again running on Saturday evening as the 30 year old Frenchman popped up in the 89th minute to latch on to Lucas Perez’s backheel to send Arsenal through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, courtesy of a 2-1 win away to Preston North End.
Arsenal were very lucky to still be in the match at half time having been run ragged by a hungrier and more determined Preston North End side that really should have been three goals ahead at the interval after completely dominating the first half and missing a clutch of chances to add to their seventh minute lead. Despite being Arsenal’s go to guy this season, Manager Arsene Wenger believes it is time to give star forward Alexis Sanchez a bit of a breather.
Announcing his decision to rest Sanchez for Arsenal’s trip to Deepdale to take on Preston North End in the FA Cup, Wenger said, “I always planned in my head, no matter what happens, that in January he will need a breather. What we forget is that when they go away for international games they travel to Chile. Then they play sometimes 2,000 miles away, they travel back and then they come here and play the next day again.” Continue reading
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed that he will rest a few key players for the Gunners’ FA Cup third round clash with Preston North End this weekend.
Speaking to the press today, Wenger revealed, “I haven’t decided on the team yet. It depends on everyone’s fitness levels but we will play with around 90% of the first team squad. I will rest Alexis Sanchez and Mezut Ozil, who is coming in today after having been in bed for two weeks with a suspected throat infection. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed in his press conference today that another Gunner has picked up an injury and will as a result miss the FA Cup tie with Preston North End this weekend.
The unfortunate player in question is summer signing Lucas Perez, who would have surely started that game had been fit, and it would have done the Spaniard some good to get a run of games under his belt as he looks to find his best form. Continue reading
