Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger today ruled out the possibility of signing West Ham United playmaker Dmitri Payet in the January transfer window.

Wenger rules out January signings, confirms possible exits

Arsenal fans keeping a close eye on the transfer market hoping for a big money signing can pretty much forget about that happening if Manager Arsene Wenger continues to have his way.

Speaking at his press conference this morning ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Burnley this weekend, Wenger said,  “I expect it to be a very quiet period because we have Welbeck coming back now. French winger turns down opportunity to replace Gervinho at Arsenal

French playmaker Dimitri Payet has officially moved to Olympique Marseille from Lille on Wednesday, French newspaper LeProgress reported. The Marseille club did not reveal the exact amount of the transfer, but have evidently managed to outbid Arsene Wenger, Arsenal’s gaffer, who was chasing Payet as well.

The deal for the 26-year-old Frenchman, who topped the assists table with 12 in last year’s Ligue 1, represents a major coup for Marseille, who lost out to PSG in the quest for the title last season. Continue reading

Arsenal showing keen interest in French winger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has another Frenchman on his shopping list for this summer with the 63 year old boss reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of Lille OSC winger Dimitri Payet, according to a report published in The Daily Mail.

Payet has scored 13 goals in 52 matches for his club this season. The 26 year old has also been an important contributor during matches with 22 assists to his name, which clearly indicates that the Frenchman definitely also looks to bring others into the game and isn’t really a selfish player at all. Payet has also been the second highest goalscorer for Lille in Ligue 1 this season, with 12 strikes to his name, just two behind former Chelsea man Salomon Kalou. The Frenchman has, however, not got many opportunities to start for Les Bleus, despite having 2 goals in 3 appearances to his name. Continue reading
