An 89th minute header from Olivier Giroud rescued a point for a poor Arsenal side that failed to turn up for yet another big game, making heavy weather of playing what is arguably one of the weakest Manchester United side in years.
An uninspiring first half saw Alexis Sanchez miss badly with a header in what was Arsenal’s only real opportunity. Arsene Wenger would have been kicking himself for missing out on this signing, as Mata has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best players.
The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal are interested in the Spanish star as questions have begun to emerge over whether Mourinho wants him in his team. It was rumored that either Mata or Confederations Cup hero David Luiz was used in a swap deal to lure unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge, although this was dispelled by ‘The Special One’. It is also rumored that talks over a new improved deal for Mata have stalled, another factor which has got Wenger to ask about Mata’s availability. Continue reading
