Giroud header earns Arsenal a point at Old Trafford

An 89th minute header from Olivier Giroud rescued a point for a poor Arsenal side that failed to turn up for yet another big game, making heavy weather of playing what is arguably one of the weakest Manchester United side in years.

An uninspiring first half saw Alexis Sanchez miss badly with a header in what was Arsenal’s only real opportunity. Manchester United on their part were equally poor and barring a solitary save from Petr Cech to deny Juan Mata, neither goalkeeper had anything of note to do in the entire opening 45 minutes. Arsenal await Mata decision

Media reports suggest that Arsenal are looking to snap up Chelsea star midfielder Juan Mata in a possible deadline day swoop to add some much needed guile to their squad. Arsenal are currently short in number in key areas and are desperate to add depth to their team to help them compete for silverware this season.

Rumours have been going around that recently re-appointed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho does not have Juan Mata in his plans for the season and the Portuguese manager added fuel to those rumours by not starting the Spaniard in any of the games this season. Continue reading

Will Willian’s arrival lead to Juan Mata’s departure to Arsenal?

Chelsea may have pulled off another transfer coup as they have nabbed Brazilian winger Willian right from under angry Tottenham noses. However, a Sunday People report revealed that the Blues assured Willian of first team football alongwith attacking midfielders Eden Hazard and Oscar which means that there may be no place in the Chelsea starting line-up for their two time player of the year Juan Mata.

Media reports suggest that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to offer Mata a way out with the Frenchman looking to sign the Premier League’s leading assist maker of last season. Arsenal are confident that should Mata decide to depart Stamford Bridge, the Emirates is the best option available for him, especially in a World Cup year. Continue reading

Arsenal ready for sensational Mata swoop

Arsenal were reportedly close to signing Chelsea talisman Juan Mata in 2011, but the Spaniard chose to join Chelsea instead because he regarded them as a club with more ambition than the Gunners. Mata’s choice has been vindicated, with him winning the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup in his two years at Stamford Bridge. Arsene Wenger would have been kicking himself for missing out on this signing, as Mata has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best players.

The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal are interested in the Spanish star as questions have begun to emerge over whether Mourinho wants him in his team. It was rumored that either Mata or Confederations Cup hero David Luiz was used in a swap deal to lure unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge, although this was dispelled by ‘The Special One’. It is also rumored that talks over a new improved deal for Mata have stalled, another factor which has got Wenger to ask about Mata’s availability. Continue reading
