Hey Wenger… Who was your DMC today? Where’s the leadership on the pitch?

While Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger continues to look for excuses as to why his side lost their season opener to Liverpool today, and points fingers at players returning late from the Euros, to having been deprived of his first choice (and second choice) defensive pairing due to poor luck… the fact remains Arsenal fans have seen this all too often before.

The 11 players on the pitch today were not the best in the Arsenal squad, but they should have been good enough to get the job done against Liverpool, and for 45 minutes showed themselves more than equal to the task. Continue reading

Wenger refuses to blame Holding for Arsenal defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said his rookie defensive pairing of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding were not to blame for today’s opening day defeat to Liverpool, and in fact absolved his defence of the defeat saying that the goals didn’t really come because of any defensive errors.

Wenger said after the game, “Maybe we lacked a bit of experience but if you look well at the goals, I don’t think it was necessarily the inexperienced players that cost us the goals today.” Continue reading

Shocking Arsenal concede 4 goals in Opening Day defeat to Liverpool

A shocking defensive performance for Arsenal in a 20 minute spell at the start of the second half cost the Gunners the opening game of the new season as Liverpool edged out Arsenal 4-3 in a terrific contest at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The first half was virtually all Arsenal as the Gunners moved the ball about beautifully and should have taken the lead before the half-hour mark as Alberto Moreno brought down Theo Walcott inside the box. Walcott stepped up to take the penalty himself, but was thwarted by an excellent save from Simon Mignolet in between the sticks. Continue reading

‘Sacre Bleu!’: Wenger in for a test of strength

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will certainly need to prep his team well in the next couple of months, in order to ensure they get off to a good start next season. The Gunners kick-start their 2016-17 Premier League campaign with a potentially competitive fixture against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. That will be followed by an away match against reigning champions Leicester City, who may well be a depleted side by that time, if the rumours flowing around in the transfer market are to be believed.

The north London giants end August with an away fixture against Watford, which will be followed by a seemingly tough September, with home matches against Southampton and Chelsea on the schedule for Wenger’s men.
