Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger held a press conference at the Stubhub Center on Saturday as the Gunners prepared for their pre-season clash with Chivas.
Predictably Wenger was quizzed about the Gunners’ transfer targets, specifically asked about Arsenal’s rumoured interest in Riyad Mahrez and Alexandre Laccazette. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has decided to loosen the strings of his purse a little in order to land Olympique Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette this summer. According to reports in Squawka, the boss has decided to table an improved bid of £33.7m for the player, and it is understood that he may not spend any further on him.
The Ligue 1 giants are believed to have already rejected the north Londoners’ opening offer of £29.5m for the highly rated striker. And while Wenger’s new offer is a significant improvement on his earlier one, it still falls considerably short of Lyon’s demands of £40m, plus bonuses, for their player.

Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of Olympique Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, with the Ligue 1 side known to have finally become ready to sell him. However, as per reports in The Daily Mirror, the north London giants will have to splash out at least £40m, plus bonuses, in order to bring the player to the Emirates Stadium and succeed in their endeavours.
It is believed that the Gunners have already failed with a £29.3m offer for the player, with West Ham United having also had a bid of around £32m rejected for him. Additionally, Lyon themselves would prefer to hold on to Lacazette this summer, with the side known to be considering him ‘irreplaceable’.
