Wenger: “We were a bit too comfortable”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on his team to introspect after the 1-2 loss to Everton in an English Premier League (EPL) match.

Tuesday evening’s loss at the Goodison Park Stadium here stopped an unbeaten run of 15 matches for Arsenal. The former EPL champions, who started this season’s campaign with a 3-4 loss at home to Liverpool, have lost only two of the 16 matches they have played so far and occupy the second spot on the league table with 34 points, three behind current leaders Chelsea. Wenger lashes out at Clattenberg for incorrect corner decision

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hit out at Referee Mark Clattenberg after yet another poor decision from England’s supposed no.1 cost the Gunners a crucial point in the Premier League title race.

Clattenberg awarded a corner against Arsenal in the 85th minute after Laurent Koscielny challenged Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the air from a Leighton Baines freekick. Arsene Wenger: “We put everything in and the players are very disappointed”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger echoed the thoughts of every single Gunners fans when he said after the defeat by Everton that he felt his side had been a tad unlikely to lose and was disappointed with the result.

Truth be told, Arsenal bossed the better part of the first half, and despite taking the lead through on Alexis Sanchez freekick, ended up on the losing side as two headed goals on set pieces cost them vital points in the Premier League title race. Continue reading

Ronald Koeman: “We deserved the win”

Everton boss Ronald Koeman declared that he felt his side were deserved winners on Tuesday night against Arsenal, despite having been run ragged in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

Everton, who had fallen behind to an Alexis Sanchez freekick, drew level on the stroke of half-time through Seamus Coleman’s header, before another header from a defender – Ashley Williams – in the 86th minute sealed the win for the Toffees. Continue reading

Arsenal’s unbeaten run brought to an end by Everton

Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the Premier League was brought to a crashing halt today at Goodison Park as the Toffees stunned the Gunners 2-1 in a match that could really have gone either way.

Arsenal were the better side for much of the first half and took the lead in the 20th minute when Ashley Williams inadvertently diverted Alexis Sanchez’s low freekick into his own net. The freekick came as a result of some awful defending by Everton with Francis Coquelin barged off the ball after Everton had go their players in quite a tangle. Sanchez’s effort was on target, but probably wouldn’t have beaten Maarten Stekelenburg in the Everton goal, but Williams’ deflection left the Dutch keeper going the wrong way. Continue reading

Arsenal closing in on signing Deportivo hitman

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger’s search for a good (and certainly cheap) striker has now brought him to Spain, with reports in The Daily Mail revealing that the club are set to tussle with Everton for the signature of Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez.

It is believed that the 27 year old, who is yet to play at any level for his country, has a £16.9m release clause in his contract with his club – one that both the aforementioned English sides are more than happy to meet. Continue reading
