Jenkinson’s move to Palace held up by wage demands

Sky Sports is reporting this afternoon that Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson’s transfer to Crystal Palace has been held up so far due to the England international’s wage demands.

Jenkinson it seems had agreed a deal to join Palace on a permanent basis, having accepted a £35,000 a week with the London club, only to learn that Palace were paying their other winter signing Leicester City’s Jeffrey Schlupp £56,000 a week. Continue reading

Jenkinson transfer still “in the balance”

Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson’s proposed move to Crystal Palace isn’t quite a done deal yet.

Discussing the transfer, Palace Manager Sam Allardyce revealed, “While we appear to have an agreement with Arsenal, that agreement with the player hasn’t reached a conclusion, so that’s hanging in the balance, as we say.” Continue reading

Olivier Giroud: “I was a bit lucky”

Olivier Giroud was left praising his lucky stars after the Frenchman scored what was easily the greatest goal of his career, one that generations of Arsenal fans will talk about for centuries.

The French striker produced a Scorpion Kick finish, flicking Alexis Sanchez’s cross with the back of his boot, all the while facing the goal, ala Henrikh Mkhitariyan on Boxing Day. What made Giroud’s strike considerably better was that he was onside when he did it! Continue reading

Iwobi thrilled to have used his head

While all the limelight in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace will be stolen by Olivier Giroud’s wonder strike, Alex Iwobi will remember his excellent start to the year, having played a part in setting up Giroud’s goal, whilst also getting on the scoresheet himself to make a perfect start to the New Year.

Looking back at Giroud’s excellent strike, Iwobi shared in his post match interview, “That was great team play and for Oli to pull that out – I don’t think if he tried that again he could do that! It was a credit to him and it was a great ball from Alexis and a great team goal.” Continue reading

Arsenal reclaim third place with comfortable win against Palace

A wonder goal from Olivier Giroud, and a well placed header from Alex Iwobi helped Arsenal reclaim third place with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates.

The Gunners dominated the match pretty much from start to finish and will be happy with the three points and the clean sheet, but will probably feel they should have scored a few more goals against a side that was definitely there for the taking. Continue reading

Injury Updates ahead of Crystal Palace clash

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger provided an update on three players ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace to the Emirates for the clash on New Year’s Day.

Wenger shared that he was excited by the progress that Danny Welbeck was making in training and how ‘sharp’ he looked, but was as yet undecided whether to give him a run out for the Under-23s first or to involve him straight away in a Premier League fixture. Continue reading
