Chelsea shotstopper Thibaut Courtois hit out at Referee Anthony Taylor for his decision to award Arsenal an early goal, a decision he believe could have been chalked off for two offences not one.
Speaking to ChelseaFC.com after the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup final, Courtois said, “The first goal should never have been allowed – it was clearly a hand ball and then Ramsey was offside because he was interfering in play. I think it was a handball even if it was maybe not deliberate. His hands were not in a natural position. At the start of every season they tell us the rules and at Manchester and now the hands were not where they should be. Continue reading
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger was quick to credit his players for a terrific performance as the ‘underdogs’ from North London stunned Premier League Champions Chelsea, 2-1, to win the FA Cup.
Wenger said after the game, “Nobody gave us a chance. We have responded with attitude and class, and we have seen that today.” Continue reading
Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte was predictably disappointed at having failed in his quest to net a domestic double, but was proud of his side’s performance in the FA Cup final and over the season as a whole.
Speaking to the press after the Blues’ 2-1 loss to Arsenal at Wembley last night, Conte said, “We won the league and it was right to celebrate and enjoy this win. My players put all of themselves into the game, maybe our start wasn’t good and the impact and approach wasn’t good and Arsenal pushed a lot. We paid for this start.” Continue reading
David Ospina – 6 – Made a hash of Costa’s strike that allowed Chelsea to get back in the game, but had a very respectable outing otherwise. Made 4 very good saves.
Rob Holding – 7 – Given his age and lack of experience, Holding certainly showed he has a terrific future at Arsenal. Continue reading
Arsenal won a record 13th FA Cup with a 2-1 victory here over Premier League champion Chelsea, which missed out on the English double.
Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez got the Gunners off to a strong start in this battle of London clubs at Wembley Stadium on Saturday when he opened the scoring at the four-minute mark with a right-footed shot past net minder Thibaut Courtois. Continue reading
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey picked up yet another FA Cup winners medal, and once again produced the decisive touch in a Final, following up his match-winner against Hull City in 2014 with a rare headed goal to win the Gunners the title against Chelsea at Wembley this afternoon.
Ramsey ghosted into the Chelsea box, getting free of the attentions of the Premier League’s player of the season, N’Golo Kante, and nodded home a free header from point blank range after having been found perfectly by Olivier Giroud’s cross just 38 seconds after the Frenchman was thrown on for Danny Welbeck after Diego Costa had brought 10-man Chelsea back on level terms. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger certainly got his tactics right on FA Cup Final day as the veteran Frenchman produced a performance and a half from his considerably under strength side to beat the English Champions Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley.
Speaking after his side’s memorable win, Wenger said, “It was an outstanding performance from the first minute onwards. This team has suffered, united, and responded. I said last week this team will win the championship with one or two good buys, and keep them together. They showed strength and we played spectacular football today to win the game.” Continue reading
Arsenal restored some much needed pride to end what had so far been a rather dismal season for the Gunners, beating Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley, to win the FA Cup for the 13th time in their history and for the 7th time under the reign of Arsene Wenger, making the under pressure Frenchman the most successful Manager in the history of the world’s oldest football competition.
Arsenal made an exceptionally bright start to the game, but took the lead in rather fortuitous circumstances with Alexis Sanchez prodding home with the outside of his right boot after following in his own deflected attempt to pass the ball over the top of the Chelsea defence. Continue reading
