Santi Cazorla has given Arsenal a 1-0 lead against Watford at Vicarage Road, converting a 10th minute penalty awarded to the Gunners after make shift wing-back Nordin Amrabat hammered Alexis Sanchez in the box as the Chilean attempted to meet Mesut Ozil’s lofted pass.
The penalty was as clear cut as possible, and Cazorla made no mistake from the spot to give Arsenal a much needed lead in a game we surely must win to stay in touch with this season’s runaway leaders.
A brace from Alexis Sanchez helped Arsenal return to winning ways and crucially reclaim third place from Manchester City, whilst also putting a little bit of fresh air between themselves and Manchester United, with a comfortable enough 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates.
Consecutive draws against West Ham United and Crystal Palace had seen any late hope of a title charge from Arsenal wither away in the last week, whilst also throwing the Gunners firmly in the clutches of the Manchester clubs chasing them in the race for a Champions League place for next season. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said today that he is considering whether or not to use Alexis Sanchez on Sunday against Stoke City, obviously concerned about rushing the player back to action too early after his hamstring injury, while at the same time realizing that he does need a player of Sanchez’s quality in his team.
Arsenal’s away form has taken a massive hit in recent weeks, with the Gunners winning just 1 out of their last 5 games on the road, and Sunday’s match isn’t likely to be any easier with the Britannia Stadium historically being a far from favourite hunting ground of the Gunners. Continue reading

There have been consistent rumours in the press about Arsenal offering new contracts to superstar duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in an attempt to tie them down to the Emirates for the foreseeable future, but Manager Arsene Wenger was quick to rubbish such talk in his pre-match press conference today ahead of this weekend’s clash against Southampton.
Wenger hinted that he didn’t want his team distracted by talk of a new deal for the star duo, and hence also to engage in unnecessary gossip and having to deal with player egos regarding matching pay. Continue reading
