Arsenal salvage some much needed pride with 5-0 thumping of Lincoln City

The introduction of Mesut Ozil for a hamstrung Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain just before the half hour mark sparked a sluggish Arsenal into action, who got the go ahead goal just before half-time through Theo Walcott, before running away with the game in the second period, handing out a 5-0 thrashing to Lincoln City to motor into the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the 29th time in their history.

After a poor run of games in the last few weeks, Arsenal and their fans both needed lifting, and the visit of National League side Lincoln City, some 87 places behind the Gunners in the English football hierarchy meant an opportunity was there for a beleaguered Arsene Wenger to get the fans back on his side. Speaking at his press conference ahead of the clash with Preston North End in the FA Cup, Wenger revealed that Welbeck will make his return to the Arsenal squad for the trip to Deepdale, but despite his eagerness to play, will need to make do with a place on the bench. Continue reading

Wenger: “We refused to lose the game”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger praised his side’s battling qualities, mental strength and refusal to give up while complaining about pretty much everything else after the Gunners overturned a 3-0 deficit in the last 20 minutes of their game against Bournemouth to leave Dean Court with a share of the spoils.

Wenger said about his team after the game, “It was a physical and mental test – they started much faster but we showed we are mentally strong. At 3-0 down after 70 minutes you’d take a point, but in the end we were frustrated not to win the game.” Continue reading
