Coming shortly on the heels of Arsene Wenger’s announcement on his decision to exercise the one year extension on the Arsenal contracts of veteran duo Per Mertesacker and Santi Cazorla, Arsenal have also secured the futures of their French trio – Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Francis Coquelin.
Arsenal announced the new deals through their official website, with Arsene Wenger saying, “We are very pleased that three important members of our team have committed to us for the long term. Francis has made tremendous technical strides over the past few years because he’s so focused every day.
“Olivier has big experience in the game now and has become a more and more complete player since joining us. Laurent is of course a key part of our squad and I believe one of the best defenders in the world today. So overall, this is great news for us.”
Giroud has played 206 games for Arsenal and is fast approaching the 100 goal mark. He will hope to get to that target this season, currently finding himself 9 shy of the number. Koscielny has played 273 times for the Gunners, while Coquelin has 130 appearances under his belt.
Koscielny later revealed on Twitter that his deal with the club will run till 2020, the duration of the other players’ contract hasn’t been revealed, but there is every chance that Coquelin’s will also be at least that long, while Giroud’s also is likely to be more or less of a similar duration.
