Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been handed a 4-match touchline ban for having pushed and verbally abused fourth official Anthony Taylor after being sent off in the Gunners’ 2-1 win over Burnley at the weekend. Wenger has also been handed a negligible £25,000 fine.
Wenger will as a result miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Southampton and the Premier League matches that follow against Watford, Chelsea and Hull.
Fortunately from an Arsenal perspective Wenger has not been handed a stadium ban, which means he will be able to interact with the team during the games, even if from the stands.
Wenger’s ban will provide Assistant Manager Steve Bould a rare chance to run proceedings on the pitch during the game.
There is a chance that Wenger will appeal the ban, but even if the FA agrees to a reduction, there is still every chance that he will miss the big game away to Chelsea on the 4th of February.
Update: Arsenal have released a statement announcing they will not appeal the ban.
