Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger provided an update on three players ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace to the Emirates for the clash on New Year’s Day.
Wenger shared that he was excited by the progress that Danny Welbeck was making in training and how ‘sharp’ he looked, but was as yet undecided whether to give him a run out for the Under-23s first or to involve him straight away in a Premier League fixture.
Given the fact that the forward has been out for 7 months and had an injury prone time even before that, discretion should be the better part of valour.
Wenger also provided positive news on the return of centre back Shkrodan Mustafi, who played a key role in our unbeaten run in the Premier League. The defender has recovered from his injury and should be available for selection.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Kieran Gibbs, who has an inflammation in his knee after colliding with a player in the Gunners’ win against West Brom, and will miss the next two games, but should return in time to face Preston North End in the FA Cup.
Wenger also revealed though that a few members in the squad are down with the flu, but refused to divulge names.
