There is some positive team news for Arsenal heading into this weekend’s fixture with Stoke City, with Manager Arsene Wenger confirming that Spanish superstar Hector Bellerin is back in contention after having recovered from the injury he sustained as a result of a challenge by Danny Rose late in the North London derby last month.
Wenger revealed that while he is not certain about Bellerin’s inclusion for the upcoming game, the young Spaniard could very much be in contention and faces a fitness test to determine whether he would be able to get through the game.
Arsenal have been struggling a bit in recent weeks in the right back role with Carl Jenkinson yet to hit top form after his return from injury, and Mathieu Debuchy having also picked up a knock that has ruled him out of action for 6 weeks.
Gabriel Paulista, a natural centre back, has deputized well in the right back role in recent games, but he doesn’t offer the same attacking threat as Bellerin going forward, something that is quite vital when playing at home when teams traditionally try to sit deep and absorb pressure.
It still remains to be seen whether Bellerin will be fit to face Stoke, but his return to training couldn’t have come at a better time for Arsenal heading into the busy holiday season.
