He may not be starting as many games as he might have liked, but Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is happy to be contributing as the 30 year old French international came off the bench to score for the 10th time in his career to grab Arsenal a rather useful point at Old Trafford.
Manchester United had played the better football in the second half and appeared to be heading for all three points before Giroud’s excellent header from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross earned Arsenal a point.
Giroud told the BBC after the game, “It was a very good cross from Chambo. I attacked the ball and I am very happy for myself but for the team as well because we needed this point.”
Regarding his new found bench role, he said, “It is always frustrating to be on the bench but it is part of the job. You need to stay focused on what you have to do and that is what I and Chambo tried to do, try and bring a plus to the team.”
The point ensures that Arsenal will finish the weekend in the top 4, irrespective of other results.
