Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was happy to see his two newest signings Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez get through their first game for the Gunners unscathed as Arsenal picked up a 2-1 win against Southampton at the Emirates.
Assessing the duo’s performance after the game, Wenger shared he believed both men were well short of match fitness and it will take them some time to adjust to the pace and physical demands of the Premier League.
Wenger defended the performance of both players, commenting that both have played just one game so far this season in La Liga and it showed today as their lack of match sharpness affected their performance.
The Frenchman also added that he wasn’t sure as yet whether he would pick either of them in the starting eleven for the upcoming trip to Paris St. Germain in the Champions League, but did mention that they should in all likelihood make the matchday squad.
However, with Laurent Koscielny having picked up an injury late in the game, there is every chance that Mustafi at least will be required to play in Paris.
