Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made it clear that the club will not be making any more signings this summer, after revealing that the duo of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez had signed for the club.
Speaking to reporters after his side’s 3-1 victory away at Watford, the Frenchman said: “We have bought two players, Mustafi and Perez. They will integrate into the team now and we will help them join squad. We had to work very hard to get signings done. We have not got any plans for anyone else now.”
The Gunners had been linked with a host of defensive and attacking targets this summer. The side were in desperate need of cover for Per Mertesacker and a long term replacement for both, the German and Laurent Koscielny, and were also keen to sign a player who could guarantee them goals and provide competition for the likes of Olivier Giroud, etc. And while Mustafi had been one of their primary targets for the backline, former Everton target Perez has been more of a surprise signing, with the side known to have been originally following the likes of Jamie Vardy, Gonzalo Higuain, Alexandre Lacazette, Alvaro Morata, etc. this summer.
Surely, it is too early to pass any judgement with regards to either of the aforementioned new signings; fans, however, would desperately hope the pair have it in them to help the Gunners pose a strong challenge for titles in the times to come, especially with the manager making it clear that there would be no more signings for the side this summer.
