Arsenal 2-0 Bayern Munich: Player Ratings

Petr Cech¬†–¬†9 – An incredible performance from the new Arsenal favourite as he kept the hottest striker in Europe at bay for 90 minutes. What a signing Cech is for Arsenal.

Hector Bellerin – 8 – Struggled to cope with Douglas Costa in the first half, but what an amazing performance from the young Spaniard in the second!

Nacho Monreal – 7 – Consistently double teamed by Bayern, but the Spanish left back held firm to help Arsenal keep a clean sheet.

Per Mertesacker – 7 – Positioning of the Arsenal skipper was outstanding as usual and he marshaled the side phenomenally well.

Laurent Koscielny – 8 – Great late defending from Koscielny to stop Lewandowski from grabbing a late equalizer.

Francis Coquelin – 8 – Struggled a bit in the opening 20 minutes, but came out on top as the game wore on.

Santi Cazorla – 7 – Continues to put in a superb shift defensively in front of the back four, making interceptions galore.

Alexis Sanchez – 6 – Not the Chilean’s best game, and still Arsenal won! Had a snapshot in the first half, and gave the ball away in dangerous positions twice, was lucky not to be punished by Bayern. Also, didn’t really provide Monreal with enough cover in the first half, forcing Ozil to play wider and deeper in the second.

Aaron Ramsey – 6 – Worked extremely hard to make it three sitting midfielders when Bayern had the ball, and pushed forward at every opportunity. Hopefully his hamstring injury won’t rule him out for more than a couple of weeks.

Mesut Ozil – 7 – Scored the goal which killed the game, and put in a shift on the left-flank when asked in the second half. Is starting to show his big game promise with goals against Man United and now Bayern Munich.

Theo Walcott – 6 – Put in a decent shift, and nearly scored with what would have been a rare header in the first half. Is still improving as a central striker.

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6 – Will be thanking his stars that Ozil’s goal was given and his smile at the end said it all.

Olivier Giroud – 8 – Made an instant impact as a substitute and even apart from his goal, provided a much needed focal point for the Arsenal attack.

Kieran Gibbs – 7 – Made some crucial late tackles and interceptions.
