Arsenal are reported to be preparing a £17.8m bid to sign their long term target, Real Madrid ace Karim Benzema, this summer, according to reports in The Metro. What’s more – it is even believed that Los Blancos are open to the prospect of selling the Frenchman for that bargain fee in this transfer window.
It is understood that Real’s new manager Rafael Benitez is uninterested in keeping hold of the player this summer, with him likely to resort to playing Cristiano Ronaldo and/or Gareth Bale as part of his formation, in which he will play one or two forwards. And the Frenchman himself is believed to be keen on a switch in order to avoid spending time on the sidelines next season.
Benzema, who is consistently rated as being among the best strikers in the world, was decent in terms of goal returns last season, scoring 22 times and providing 15 assists in 46 appearances for the club. Additionally, he was booked only once while playing for the club last year, which speaks volumes about the kind of disciplined player that he has become.
The 27 year old has the potential to be a huge signing for the Gunners this summer, especially with the club having already sold Lukas Podolski, and them being set to part ways with Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo too. Benzema may help the side not only with his experience, but also with his offensive prowess, which will surely add more sting to the club’s attack force.
