Former Arsenal misfit Abou Diaby is understood to be nearing a move to West Bromwich Albion this summer. According to reports in Sky Sports, the Frenchman will have his medical at the club this weekend, after which he will seal his move to The Hawthorns.
Diaby moved to the north London club in 2006, with manager Arsene Wenger believed to have been viewing him as the long term replacement for the legendary Patrick Vieira. However, during his long stay at the club, the 29 year old was able to make just 180 appearances for the Gunners’ first team, whilst racking up 40 injuries in total!
It was believed that the player would be offered a pay-as-you-play contract at the Emirates Stadium this summer. However, Wenger eventually made up his mind to part ways with him, with him deciding against renewing his contract which expired at the end of the last month.
The boss recently revealed that one of the biggest regrets of his managerial career was being unable to harness Diaby’s full potential at Arsenal. And one would certainly hope that the player manages to get back to his best at West Brom now, avoiding any more fitness problems.
