Arsenal are understood to be weighing up a move for Schalke youngster Sead Kolasinac, viewing him as a long term replacement for Nacho Monreal at the Emirates Stadium, according to reports in TMW.
The Spaniard is known to be edging closer to a move to Athletic Bilbao this summer, despite him having recently declared his allegiance to the club. And as a result, manager Arsene Wenger is being faced with the task of landing a proper replacement for him soon, with Kieran Gibbs being the only other traditional left back in the club’s first team.
It was earlier believed that Wenger would try to sign Napoli full back Faouzi Ghoulam for the role; however, Bosnian international Kolasinac is understood to have taken his place in the boss’ wishlist now.
22 year old Kolasinac is known to be a versatile defender, who is also capable of playing as a centre back or a defensive midfielder, in addition to playing in his traditional left back role. He has also represented Bosnia and Herzegovina 7 times on the international stage till now, having played for Germany at various youth levels before this.
The youngster, meanwhile, is finding it hard to land himself regular game time at Schalke, with Dennis Aogo currently the first choice for the position, which is why Wenger may succeed in luring him to the Emirates Stadium by promising him ample game time. Additionally, Arsenal will also be able to provide the player with a chance to play in the Champions League next season.
