Arsenal are on the verge of missing out on the chance to sign Manchester City ace James Milner. According to reports in The Daily Mirror, the Englishman is understood to be wishful for signing for Liverpool after his current contract at the Etihad Stadium ends at the end of this season.
29 year old Milner has been an important part of manager Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this season, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assists in 43 appearances for the club. However, the fact that he has been played out of his natural position on a number of occasions has made him disillusioned with his stay at the club. As a result, he is understood to be desperate to move to a club where he would be allowed to play where he wishes to.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been reportedly following Milner for quite a while now. However, the player now seems to have chosen Anfield as his next destination, despite the fact that the Reds haven’t been able to qualify for next season’s Champions League. The reason behind his choice is believed to be the fact that at Liverpool, the player will get to ply his trade in the central midfield – something that he may not be able to do at Arsenal.
It is believed that Liverpool are ready to provide the Englishman with wages of around £100,000-a-week during his stay at the club.
Meanwhile, even though Milner may have found regular first team chances tough o come by at the Emirates Stadium, the fact remains that with the kind of experience that he possesses, he may have been a good and useful signing for Arsene Wenger.
