Arsenal given transfer boost as Bayern back off in Draxler pursuit

Arsenal have been given renewed hope in signing their long term high-profile target Julian Draxler as German giants Bayern Munich have seemingly withdrawn their interest in signing the 20-year old.

Bayern allegedly blocked Draxler’s move to Arsenal in January as the Gunners were closing in on the German international, but the Bavarians’ Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has gone on record saying that they will not pursue Draxler in the summer.

The Bayern Chief was quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying, “We are not buying any player from Dortmund or Schalke just to hurt these clubs. We are just buying players who can give FC Bayern more quality straight away. I can rule out that we will sign Julian Draxler in the summer.”

This move gives Arsenal another bite at the cherry in Draxler’s transfer chase, although one cannot predict whether the Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger will splash out the full value of Draxler’s 37 million pound release clause in the summer, if required.

The German international though was vocal about his desire to play for Arsenal, who have a considerable German contingent already in their squad in the form of Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Serge Gnabry.
