Arsenal finally make first January signing

The exciting news for Gooners worldwide (or maybe not) is that Arsenal have finally splashed the cash on a new signing, the first of the year and with all anticipation running wild, the news has emerged that the Gunners have signed Andy Rolls as the new head of sport science. Although the signing may not appeal to every Gooner, certainly the Gunners’ hierarchy is quite happy about it, with him being touted as a key addition to the backroom staff at the Emirates.

Rolls was previously employed with West Ham United until he signed on for Arsenal and has played a significant role in the return of Hammers striker Andy Carroll from injury, which had seen him being sidelined for most of the first-half of the season. Rolls has been replaced at Upton Park by former Anzhi Makhachkala and Everton physio Dominic Rogan, who has had a brush of quite a reputation in England having helped David Moyes manage to get the maximum of his threadbare Everton squad.

Rolls has been tipped to work closely with the players and help them avoid picking up long term injuries, like the ones that Bendtner and Walcott recently sustained and Rolls is ready to perform his duties for Arsenal as early as next month. There has been no change in Colin Lewin’s duties however, with him set to continue as the Gunners’ head of medicine.

Whether Rolls is able to deliver what he has been appointed for is a matter which would need review in the future. As for now, all we can hope that he can prove himself to be as instrumental to the club as each player signing for the club is and help the Gunners remain fit to earn themselves a piece of silverware for which they have been working so hard this season.
