Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has another Frenchman on his shopping list for this summer with the 63 year old boss reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of Lille OSC winger Dimitri Payet, according to a report published in The Daily Mail.
Payet has scored 13 goals in 52 matches for his club this season. The 26 year old has also been an important contributor during matches with 22 assists to his name, which clearly indicates that the Frenchman definitely also looks to bring others into the game and isn’t really a selfish player at all. Payet has also been the second highest goalscorer for Lille in Ligue 1 this season, with 12 strikes to his name, just two behind former Chelsea man Salomon Kalou. The Frenchman has, however, not got many opportunities to start for Les Bleus, despite having 2 goals in 3 appearances to his name.
Payet is being viewed as a key addition to the Gunners’ squad on account of his versatility to play on either flank as effectively as in a central attacking role. Although he primarily plays on the left-wing, a position in which Lukas Podolski occasionally plies his trade, his ability to play on the right flank too can make him a good replacement for Yao Gervinho who looks transfer bound this summer.
Although the Frenchman commands a transfer fee of €15m, the latest French taxation rules might persuade Lille to sell him for much less. Payet can be an interesting bargain for Wenger, should the manager decide to purchase him this summer.
