Arsene Wenger seems to be at it again, renowned and respected in equal measure the world over for his ability to harness raw talent and convert them into world class footballers, the Frenchman now has Uzbek prodigy Odil Akhmedov within his cross-hairs.
A defensive midfielder who can also double up as a full-back, Akhmedov has been plying his trade at Anzhi Makhachkala following his move there from Uzbek giant Pakhtakor in 2011.

According to Russian daily Izvestia, Arsenal are offering €4 million for the Uzbekistan international. The player himself confirmed the speculation surrounding him, when he told the same newspaper that,” It is true I have interest from the London club, Arsenal. Their scouts have watched me in every game.”

The enormity of such an unprecedented move has not however escaped him, as he went on to add, “If I move there, it will not only be a success for me, but for all of Uzbek football.” The 25 year old acknowledged his satisfaction at his current club, but made no bones about wanting to play in the big leagues, “Of course, I am very happy to play at Anzhi. This is a club with a great future, but I’d like to try in England or Spain. All these countries have great teams, but having the choice to play for Arsenal would be a dream.”

Akhmedov, who is known for his powerful long range shot has been on the Arsenal radar since 2012, when Arsene Wenger first started looking for a forceful midfield enforcer. The Uzbek already has 50 caps for his country, what remains to be seen is how well he fits into monsieur Wenger’s plan for the upcoming season.
