Vito Mannone has slipped to 3rd choice at Arsenal and the 25-year old goalkeeper is being lined up for a return to Italian Serie A as the Daily Star reports that Parma and Genoa are chasing the player’s signature. Mannone has fallen behind Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order and the Gunners are reportedly willing to cash in on the stopper.
Arsenal are keen to bring in a world class keeper to the Emirates this summer to challenge Szczesny for the no.1 jersey, and with Mannone unlikely to see any game time next season, it is probably time for the Italian to accept that he doesn’t have much of a future at Arsenal and move on in his career.
Mannone is a talented stopper, but just not good enough to play at Arsenal, and is likely to relish playing in a far less physical league like Italy where goalkeepers aren’t challenged quite so much in the air.
Mannone isn’t like to fetch Arsenal any more than a million pounds, but his exit would clear space in the squad for another keeper, and it is probably time for the former Atalanta youngster to return home.
